THE Settee

Behold.

If you come for a design appointment, we'll drink tea and you'll be introduced to THE settee. She holds court on the sitting side of my office and workshop.

When I found her, she was looking a little desperate — burgundy and navy striped jacquard, and more piping than I've ever seen on a single piece of furniture.

The frame itself is a beautiful thing — that shell crest, the cabriole legs, a gently curved front rail. But it had evidence of a rough past: a split running the full length of the back, the kind of damage that suggests a tumble down a flight of stairs at some point in her career. But, broken doesn't mean lost.

Now she wears white leopard print velvet, and the transformation is total. Everyone loves her, of course.

Style: French Provincial reproduction carved wood frame
Upholstery: Leopard print velvet, fully reupholstered
Condition: Restored — gross original jacquard replaced, frame split repaired, not a shred of humility

Before. Yikes.

Even the back is hot.
